ANNE HEINIG PARK

The Anne Heinig Memorial Park Foundation:  Early during the development of the Mountainbrook community, a neighbor by the name of Anne Heinig went door-to-door gathering donations and funding for the acquisition and construction of a pool.  That pool was later to become one of the attractions for the Mountainbrook neighborhood.

In 1968, Orthopedic Surgeon, Charles F. "Jake" Heinig, a long-time Mountainbrook resident at 3301 Mill Pond Road and later at 3521 Johnny Cake Lane, suddenly lost his young wife, Anne, at age 35.  As a tribute to Anne, Jake purchased about 3 acres of land, adjacent to the pool, for use as a park for the Mountainbrook neighborhood.  In that same year, the park was renamed in her honor, The Anne Heinig Memorial park, and has henceforth been managed by the like-named foundation.

Each year, Mountainbrook residents, together with Club members, spruce up the park by their donation of time, materials, and sweat-equity to maintain the park as a jewel of the Mountainbrook community.  We have had projects and equipment donated by neighbors and groups looking to assist their community. A jogging trail improvement to the park was made in 1977.   In 2019, a gaga ball court was built and donated by a Y-Guides tribe.  In 2020, we added a commercial grade swing set,  Blazing Bees garden, a retaining wall and Frank Barnes park bench. Another Eagle Scout project upfitted and refreshed the sand volleyball court in 2021. Upgrades are continuous, and right now there is an ongoing fundraiser to replace the wooden playground structure with a commercial grade playset. If you would like to contribute, whether it be monetary, materials or labor, please contact a member of the park board.

Park amenities include a playground, basketball court, gaga ball court, sand volleyball court and a picnic pavilion. An open lawn for field sports including soccer, baseball, volleyball, frisbee, or just about anything you can imagine.  Regular league use is not appropriate.  The field is also used for Mountainbrook Civic Association sponsored events such as the annual Spring Egg Hunt, Fall Festival and Halloween parade.  Swim Club activities include annual opening day parties, July 4th festivities, swim team events and Labor Day closing parties.

The park covered shelter is available for a $50 fee, in the absence of a community function, on a first-come, first-served basis.  Reservations must be made in advance and scheduled with the foundation board member, Jen Ruiz.  (Form is below)
